Everything You Ought To Know About Corona Arch, Moab Utah

By on

Springtime was here and we were ready to camp!!  There are only a few months out of the year that I will travel to Moab, Utah.

It gets way to hot down there and I don’t deal with the heat to well.

My in-laws were in town so they decided to join in on the fun!  They just retired so they are traveling around in a huge 5th wheel.  So their idea of camping is just parking their home somewhere else.   Cable TV and all…it’s fancy.

My idea of camping used to be sleeping under the stars in the back of my Tacoma.  We can’t quite do that with a toddler so we invested in a Tent.  We did a lot of research before we decided on this tent.  It’s the MacDaddy of all tents.

This is the Coleman WeatherMaster 6 person tent.  This baby is called WeatherMaster for a reason.  The first night we were there it poured rain and experienced really high winds.  We stayed dry and our tent stayed intact!

I love how big it is.  No breaking my back trying to get in and out of it.

My favorite feature is the door.  It has a hinge on it so it swings open and closed so you dont have to zip it up all the time!

Ok…Enough about my Sweet Tent and on with our Adventure!!!

This was our daughters first camping trip.  Let me take that back.  We tried camping the summer before but she puked all over me so we packed up and went home.  So that didn’t count.

She did really well except for the fact I gave her measles.  She had the MMR vaccination a week prior and I swear she got the measles from it.  She would be fine one minute and lethargic the next with this nasty rash all over her.  She just wasn’t her spunky self:(

Thank god for that fancy 5th wheel because it rained a good portion of the time we were down there.

I can’t say that I’ve ever watched cable and camped before but I have to say I was digging it when the weather went sour!

Corona Arch!

This is a kid and dog friendly hike!  It’s 1.5 miles to the Arch.  It’s a slickrock trail with a few short scrambles equipped with steel cables.  I hiked the whole way up with a 30lb child on my back so I’ll have to rate it as a pretty laid back hike.

Corona Arch is the home the the largest daredevil  rope swing. This craziness involves taking a running leap and swinging like a pendulum through a five-story structure.

Unfortunately there was no one there jumping that day.  I would have loved to have seen this.  If given the opportunity to jump…that’s a big maybe.

Back in the day (pre motherhood), I would have said “Hell Yea!  Give me some whiskey and let’s do this!”

Now that I’m a mother, my views on these xtreme activities has changed.  The thought of death enters my brain  which was never there before.  Being responsible for another human being has depleted any xtreme left in these old bones.

So I guess that big maybe means hell no I wouldn’t jump.  I could die.

You have to check out what these people are doing!!!

I highly recommend this hike.  There is not any shade so if you do go on a hot day I suggest going in the morning or evening.  It’s a great place for a picnic so bring your lunch and don’t forget the beer.  It’s one of those places where beer and nature go hand and hand:)
